Abstract
Norwegian allows an unergative verb to take an external DP/NP possess or with a body part noun, as in Hun tråkket ham på føttene ‘she stepped him on feet.DEF’. This construction is both similar to and different from other cases of possessor raising (Lødrup 2009a), and raises some challenges for syntactic analysis. This article gives a new account of the synchronic facts, and shows that the construction must have arisen through a reanalysis of the corresponding construction in Old Norse.
