Manglende hjørnetenner hos mindreårige asylsøkere.

Abstract

Ved kliniske og radiologiske orale undersøkelser av enslige antatte mindreårige asylsøkerne som kommer til Norge hvert år, har man oppdaget at en relativt stor andel av søkerne mangler hjørnetenner, og det spekuleres i om dette kan skyldes kulturell fjerning av tannanlegg. Dette er et fenomen kjent fra litteraturen som infantil oral mutilasjon (IOM), som praktiseres i sentral- og øst-Afrika. Hvorfor mangler hjørnetennene og hvilken betydning har det for oss som tannleger?

Clinical and radiological oral examinations of unaccompanied minors asylum seekers who come to Norway each year, shows that a relatively large proportion of the applicants are missing canines, and it is speculated that this may be due to cultural tooth extraction. This is a phenomenon known in the literature as infantile oral mutilasjon (IOM), which is practiced in central and eastern Africa. Why are the canines missing and what is the sigificance for us as dentists?
