Abstract
In clinical and radiological oral examinations of unaccompanied minors asylum who comes to Norway every year, it has been discovered that a relatively large proportion of the applicants is missing canines, and it is speculated that this may be due to cultural tooth extraction. This is a phenomenon known in the literature as infantile oral mutilasjon (IOM), which is practiced in central and eastern Africa. Why is the canines missing and what is the consequences for us as dentists?
