Abstract
The purpose of this thesis is to examine how TV 2 s loss of the main part of the tv-rights to Tippeligaen, will affect the channel s journalistic coverage of Tippeligaen. To answer this, I have conducted a quantitative content analysis of TV 2 s 21.25-broadcasts of Sportsnyhetene (sports news) in two periods: one where TV 2 had the main part of the tv-rights (March 2012 and April 2012), and one where they did not (March 2013 and April 2013). In addition, I have conducted qualitative interviews with key people in TV 2 and the Norwegian football association. The results of the quantitative survey show that TV 2 s journalistic coverage of Tippeligaen have changed from 2012 to 2013. The most important result is that the coverage of Tippeligaen decreased in March 2013 compared to March 2012, while it increased in April 2013 compared to April 2012. When combined with the results from the qualitative interviews, it suggests that several of the changes in TV 2 s coverage, can be due to their loss of the main part of the tv-rights to Tippeligaen. The changes, however, might also have been influenced by other factors.
