| dc.description.abstract | Drug-related problems are common in nursing homes and medication reviews are measures to improve the quality of medication use. We assessed changes in drug use after multidisciplinary medication reviews and variations in drug use and in drug-related problems between nursing homes in Oslo. We also compared the drug use of older people living in nursing homes or at home.
Medication reviews decreased the total drug use and the use of inappropriate drugs. Drug use and drug-related problems varied largely between the nursing homes, suggesting different prescription cultures at the institutions. Opioids and psychotropic drugs were associated with an increased risk for drug-related problems at the respective institutions. Drug use by older people differed according to care level, with a probable overuse of psychotropic drugs and opioids in nursing homes and of cardiovascular and arthritis drugs at home. | en_US |
