Abstract
This master thesis is called ”topology discovery in Resilient Packet Ring”. Resilient Packet Ring (RPR) is ring based network for use in metropolitan area networks and local area networks (MAN/LAN). When this master thesis was written the RPR technology was being standardized. The thesis covers the topology discovery mechanism on the RPR network. Topology discovery is required to make all the stations on the ring aware of the other stations and their ordering.
Three proposals to a topology discovery mechanism is discussed and simulated. The simulator is a Java simulator which tries different tests on the different methods to see how they cope. After all the tests are done the three methods are compared to see what differs in the three.
