Abstract
Klassekampen was originally a newspaper founded by the communist party AKP (m-l) in 1969. In this thesis Klassekampen s history will be explored, focusing on the more resent history after the start of the papers secession in 1991. The development of the role of the editor in chief, and Klassekampen s transformation from a political party s newspaper to an autonomous paper, will be analysed. Since 1991 Klassekampen has had four editors in chief: Sigurd Allern (1979 1995), Paul Bjerke (1995 1997), Jon Michelet (1997 2002) and Bjørgulv Braanen (2002 ). Facing different economical, social and political changes and conditions, these four editors in chief have conducted their role as editors of Klassekampen differently. The development of the role of the editors in chief will be analysed based on the understanding these four editors have had of their role. Also, the exchange of Paul Bjerke with Jon Michelet as editor in 1997, and the consequence this had on the development of the role as editor-in-chief and today s Klassekampen, will be explored. The analysis include historical-sociological perspectives on the history of Norwegian press and on the development of role of the editor in chief. The analysis is based on interviews of the four editors in chief, historical documents such as board protocols, writings on the Internet-forum KK-forum, and several newspaper clippings.
