Abstract
This thesis study is an analysis of the eBook as presented on the websites of two eBook publishers, namely ebooks.com and ereader.com, as well as an analysis of its embodiment in three reader programs, namely, Adobe Reader, Microsoft Reader and eReader. In the website context the analysis focuses on the visual presentation of the eBook as well as the language used in relation to the eBook. In the reader software context, the visual presentation, functionalities, writing space, and language used are all examined. In this study, an attempt is made to understand more clearly the current manifestation of the eBook and to show that there exists a very strong connection between the print book and the eBook manifestation. It is argued that the eBook retains characteristics which are typical to the print environment rather than taking on the typical characteristics of the digital medium.
