Abstract
With the advent of digital technologies and the constant evolution of the business landscape, middle managers play a crucial role in bridging the gap between top-level strategic decisions and the operational execution of tasks. This study examines the role of middle managers in digital environments, focusing on how they conduct work and manage the fundamental functions of planning, organizing, leading, and controlling in a rapidly changing world. The study uses a case study methodology and sheds light on middle-managerial work functions through literature analysis and interviews with eight middle managers in a digital company. The findings highlight how middle managers contend with challenges in adapting their traditional managerial practices to the demands of the digital era. The thesis finds lower hierarchies, collaboration, and autonomy to be key features within digital management
