Sammendrag
The ISO 15926 standard was designed to facilitate the integration of the life-cycle data of oil and gas production facilities. The standard provides a common dynamic reference data library (RDL), which gives precise definitions of industry terms. In recent years, the Web Ontology Language (OWL) has gained status as a de facto standard for knowledge representation, and the ISO 15926 custodians are in the process of mapping the RDL to OWL. However, there are several fundamental differences between OWL and ISO 15926, and this makes the process
difficult.
This thesis presents a thorough investigation of the semantic structure of ISO 15926, and will highlight the differences between ISO 15926 and ontology languages such as OWL. It will also give a tentative translation of ISO 15926 relationships into SHOIN(D), a language in the Description Logic family which is equivalent to the OWL variant OWL DL.
