Abstract
Sammendrag Denne oppgaven dreier seg om historikeren J. M. Thompsons bok Robespierre, som er et verk om den franske aktøren som hadde en betydelig rolle under den franske revolusjonen. Diskusjonen og analysen tar for seg hvordan Thompson fremstiller Robespierre i biografien. I den forbindelse, trekkes kollektive minner inn, som et perspektiv og analyseverktøy. Kollektive minner representeres her via navn som François Hartog, Paul Connerton, Maurice Halbwachs og Aleida og Jan Assmann. Det legges spesielt fokus på hvordan Thompson fremstiller Robespierres barndom og oppvekst – og i tillegg fokuseres det på hans rolle som politiker og hvordan denne blir fremstilt i Robespierre.
Abstract This study is about historian J. M. Thompson’s book Robespierre, which is a work about the French figure who played a significant role during the French Revolution. The discussion and analysis address how Thompson portrays Robespierre in the biography. In this context, collective memory is drawn on as an analytical perspective tool. Collective memory is represented here by names such as François Hartog, Paul Connerton, Maurice Halbwachs and Aleida and Jan Assmann. Special focus is placed on how Thompson portrays Robespierre’s childhood and adolescence, as well as his role as a politician and how this is portrayed in Robespierre.
