Abstract
Since 2013, there have been an increasing amount of conflicts on university campuses in the United States over freedom of speech. The debate whether free speech should be unrestricted is reaching a new boiling point. This thesis will look at the tension between free speech rights and inclusive, non-discriminatory societies, using what is happening on university campuses in the United States as a basis for investigation. This thesis will look at how Generation Z is changing the debate on American campuses, assess the problem and rights-based approaches to resolving the issues. It seeks to determine whether human rights protections and limits on freedom of speech are effective in regulating modern conflicts on the issue.
