Abstract
In this Master Thesis I will perform a comparative analysis of the painting Sovekammer (1890) by Danish artist Vilhelm Hammershøi and the painting Dead End (2015) by Serbian contemporary artist Dragan Bibin. How these paintings affect us and trigger certain emotions will be examined through Sigmund Freud´s theory on Das Unheimliche, as well as theories on melancholy, fear and anxiety. The purpose of this thesis is to discuss and analyse visual effects in the two paintings.
