Background: Post partum hemorrhage, PPH, is a major cause of maternal morbidity and mortality throughout the world. Objectives: To describe different types of management and how well they are documented. Design: Litterature review. Method: I searched the Cochrane Library, PubMed and UpToDate databases using the following medical subject heading and text words: postpartum hemorrage , postpartum hemorrhage/therapy , Bakri balloon , B-lynch , Pelvic arterial embolization postpartum hemorrhage and arterial ligation postpartum hemorrhage . Main results: The majority of research on this topic has focused on efforts to prevent PPH, where meta-analysis has proven their efficiancy. There is little evidence to guide treatment decisions should PPH occur, as types of management are mainly documented by reviews, case-reports and case-series. Conclusion: As little evidence exists on how to manage PPH, more research is needed.
