Abstract
Introduction E-learning is a priority area at The Medical Faculty at The University of Oslo (UiO). The aim of this project was to create an e-learning resource for medical students focusing on basic eye examination and common clinical findings. The new resource aims to supplement the existing e- learning resources in ophtalmology at UiO, which are more oriented towards pathological findings and treatment of disease. Methods and results JournalWiki, based on the MediWiki platform, is an already established open access medical e- learning website at UiO and was chosen as the platform for the new resource. Literature was reviewed and a website explaining the basic eye examination and common clinical findings was created. Seven videos showing an experienced opthalmologist performing a full eye examinations were made in cooperation with senior consultant at Oslo University Hospital, associate professor Jon Klokk Slettedal. Illustrative photos showing clinical findings were collected from online resources. The e-learning resource Øyeundersøkelse is now available on JournalWiki: http://www.journalwiki.no/øyeundersøkelse . A project report was made. It describes the process and discusses challenges concerning quality control and keeping the resource up to date. It also addresses some key aspects regarding videos and e-learning as a part of the clinical training of medical students. Conclusions Øyeundersøkelse constitutes a solid foundation for an e-learning resource about the basic eye examination and common clinical findings. The open access platform JournalWiki provides for future contributions to supplement the resource. Future developement may include adding more articles and photos that describe common presenting symptoms and findings on clinical examination.
