Abstract: Many individual papers have been published on MR Imaging artifacts. Most of these focus on specific artifacts (i.e. motion artifacts or trunction artifacts), on specific applications (i.e. cardiac imaging, or imaging of the shoulder), or on specific MR imaging modalities (i.e. diffusion weighted MR imaging or fat suppression techniques). While some textbooks on the subject include discussions of the most common artifacts and how to prevent them, they are usually very short and explain the physics behind few of them. There seems to be a scarcity of such articles on MR imaging artifacts in Norwegian (although there seems to be some older literature in Swedish and Danish). This intent of this paper is to create a simple overview of the MR imaging artifacts faced at Norwegian hospitals today, including instructions on how to recognize and/or avoid these artifacts, and qualitative discussions of the underlying physics. This paper will primarily be of service to radiographers, physicians with special interests in radiology, and students.eng
