The treatment with Continuos Positive Airways Pressure (CPAP) for respirationrelated sleeping disturbances has been a gold-standard for many years, and the meaning of this study is to control whether available literature shows that this treatment is as effective as it claims to be regarding the reduction of some of the main symptoms of Obstructive Sleep Apnea Hypopnea Syndrome (OSAHS); daytime sleepiness and morning headaches. Methods: A literature study was performed, including articles that had OSAHS, CPAP, daytime sleepiness and morning headaches as their main interest. All the articles that met my inclusion/exclusion criteria were read and discussed, and this essay is based on the results from these articles. Results: I found that respiration-related sleeping disorders responded well to the treatment with CPAP, and that most side-effects were due to minor problems such as nuisance and mask pressure. The symptoms were significantly reduced after the treatment. Conclusion: The articles and all studies concluded that the treatment with CPAP for sleep-related disturbances should continue to be gold-standard. Reduction of daytime sleepiness (measured by reduction of ESS-score) was found to be significant in all studies. Reduction of morning headaches was not found to be significant in all studies, but the treatment with CPAP was recognized as the correct treatment. However, many of the investigated studies showed various methodical weaknesses, as discussed later sections.eng
