Abstract
In the year of 2000 the so-called”morning-after pill” became nonprescriptive in Norway. The consequent increase in consumption of emergency contraception has called forth a discussion on the adequacy of present information channels concerning use and potential adverse effects. This study aims to give a summary of the available sources of information to date, and relate their content to a suitable selection of inquiries registered at SUSS. SUSS is a national resource center communicating knowledge in the field of sexual education to youth, the target group ageing between 14 and 20.
The main result is that prevailing educational material relevant to the use of emergency contraception is generally insufficient, outdated and poorly organized. Findings in the SUSS database suggest that information concerning reliability and possible influence on menstruational period should be stressed in the future. Furthermore a clear understanding within the target group of when self-administering is indicated should be strived for. A proposal for a revised educational pamphlet is presented lastly
