Abstract
Aim: To make a video about the pulmonary examination of children that includes pathological findings and explains important terms. The video seeks to educate medical students at the University of Oslo. It is in English because this semester is an exchange semester. This video will be shown at the Paediatric Portal website for medical students.
Background: We wanted to make a film because we find films very useful in our study at the faculty of Medicine at the University of Oslo, especially when practical skills are learned. A study made by the University in California shows that learning by multimedia gives good and meaningful learning. After studying different paediatric videos, we found out that a video about full pulmonary examination was missing.
Method: In preparation of making this video we studied paediatric books and observed a paediatrician in her work at Rikshospitalet University Hospital. Different videos in paediatrics were studied for ideas. We made the manuscript and a detailed plan with drawings of the different scenes in the video. Six children are participating in this video, all with written permission from their parents. A photographer from the University Hospital’s photo- and video service shot the film. With some professional help we edited the film our selves.
Result: A video lasting 20 minutes containing a full pulmonary examination of children including additional examinations, pathological findings and explanation of essential terminology.
Conclusion: We have made an educational video which contains necessary skills and knowledge for medical students.
