Abstract
Media organisations all over the world experience new challenges related to technological developments and convergence. Digitalisation of production has facilitated changes in how journalism is organised and practiced. One significant development is the growth in the number of convergent ‘media houses’ at all levels of news journalism. Media organisations of all kinds aim for some form of cross-media cooperation or synergy between reporters, newsrooms and departments that have previously been separated. This raises a number of important questions about the relationship between organisational strategies, new technologies, and everyday news journalism. This thesis addresses these developments from two perspectives, news work and news texts.Convergence in general, and cross-media production in particular, occurs in all areas of the news industry, and has implications for the majority of news workers. The thesis studies the everyday news work in the Norwegian public service broadcasting organisation NRK, analysing the relationship between organisational structure, production processes and news texts.
