Abstract
This thesis uses an interdisciplinary approach to explore Apple’s role in the re-regulation of music distribution from 2000-2010. The argument is that distribution platforms express certain ideologies about music, technology, creativity and authenticity. The interplay between Apple’s distribution technology, music production and patterns of music consumption is examined through a wide range of sources, including Apple’s iTunes Store and two selected iPhone applications.
