dc.description.abstractOppgaven søker å utforske de arkitektoniske, kulturelle og geistlige sidene rundt Ragnvald Kolssons krav på Orknøyene, hans komme til makten samt hans rolle i grunnleggingen og oppføringen av katedralen som er viet til St. Magnus i Kirkwall. Videre undersøker oppgaven katedralens arkitektur i søken etter arkitektoniske alementer som kan ha inngått i en politisk strategi for å fremme Ragnvalds krav til Orknøyene.nor
dc.description.abstractThis paper is intended as an exploration of the architectural, cultural and ecclesiastical aspects surrounding Earl Ragnvald Kolsson’s claim to Orkney, his rise to power and his founding and building of the cathedral dedicated to Saint Magnus at Kirkwall. Furthermore the paper examines the cathedral architecture in search of elements that may be viewed as part of a political strategy to assert Ragnvald’s power throughout the islands and advocate his claim to the Earldom.eng
