Abstract
This thesis investigates the close connection between film and literature. It analysis three pieces of work - the novel The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald and two of its adaptations, one from 1974 directed by Jack Clayton and the other one, the TV version, from 2001 directed by Robert Markowitz. It presents the most characteristic features of every piece, and the mutual influence of film and literature. It discusses the differences and similarities between the two forms of media based on the structure, use of narrator, perspective, symbols, etc. The thesis also briefly presents the social and historic background in which the action of the story takes place, namely the Twenties.
