dc.description.abstractThe European Union reveals through policy documents concerning the European Information Society a technological determinist stance. It can be argued that the adaptation of such a stance can be apprehended as part of a strategy, or rhetoric, and that it veils a hidden agenda. By way of a reification process, technological development is objectified, and consequently given an autonomous status. Thus, the European Information Society will reveal itself as a post-construct, superseding the real conflicts of contemporary society. It can, furthermore, be identified as a self-fulfillingnor
