Jakten på en vazaha : praksis, motivasjon og håp blant kvinner involvert i den seksuelle økonomien i Diego Suarez, Madagaskar

Abstract

Jeg strukturerer oppgaven i tre deler hvor jeg i første del vil ta for meg sammenhenger mellom materialitet og kvinners motivasjoner. Jeg mener det er gjennom en forståelse av hvordan gjenstander og stede inngår i, og virker på kvinnenes liv, at vi har dannet grunnlaget for å forstå komplikasjonene og nyansene i samhandlingen mellom kvinnene, vazahaene og gassiske menn, som er temaet for del to av oppgaven. Del to utforsker hvordan samhandlingen foregår og hvilke premisser som ligger til grunn for, og gjør at samhandlingen tar den formen den tar. Dette er tett knyttet til første del hvor jeg viser på hvilken måte de materielle elementene er tett knyttet til kvinnenes kulturelle forståelse av hva de kan forvente av relasjoner med menn. Jeg vil gjennom dette forsøke å avdekke prosesser som skjer innenfor sexindustrien i Diego hvor mellommenneskelige erfaringer blant aktørene ser ut til å strukturere spesifikke personlige prosesser, eller utvikling som ser ut til å deles av andre aktører. De er med andre ord typiske. Jeg vil peke på visse mønstre som oppstår i samhandlingen mellom mannlige vazahaer og gassiske kvinner, og presentere faktorer som er med på å strukturere samhandling mellom de to gruppene. Den tredje delen vil komme nærmere inn på kvinnene som aktører. Jeg vil presentere et bilde av hvem kvinnene er, for å kunne forstå handlingsvalgene de gjør. Kjærlighet, fortvilelse og selvforståelse vil være i fokus. Denne delen står i sammenheng med de to foregående i så måte at kvinnenes fortvilelser, gleder, problemer og løsninger på disse er tett knyttet opp i mot det materielle aspektet av livet som diskutert i første del, og erfaringer fra samhandling med vazahaer som diskutert i andre del.

I structure the analysis in three parts where the first part will focus on the relationship between materiality and women's motivations. I believe it is through an understanding of how objects and places takes part in, and effects women's lives, that we can form the basis for an understanding of the complications and nuances of interaction between women, the vazahas and Malagasy men, which is the focus of part two of the analysis. Part two explores how the interaction takes place and the premises that are the basis for, and makes the interaction takes its specific form. This is closely related to the first part where I show how the material aspect is closely linked to women's cultural understanding of what they can expect from relationships with men. I will thereby attempt to uncover the processes that occur in the sex industry in Diego where interpersonal experiences among the actors seem to structure the specific personal processes or developments that seem to be shared by other actors. They are, in other words, typical. It will be pointed out certain patterns that occur in the interaction between male vazahas and Malagasy women, and central factors that structure the interaction between the two groups. The third part will take a closer look at women as actors. I will present an image of who the women are, in order to understand the choices they make. Love, despair and self-understanding will be in focus. This section is built of the previous two parts in that way that women's despair, joys, problems and solutions are closely tied in to the material aspect of life as discussed in the first part, and the experience of interaction with the vazahas as discussed in the second part.
