Ethnic design, NGO's and the private sector : barriers and facilitator to reaching high income markets

Abstract

The Thesis is the case study of Isandi, a Norwegian private distributor of Ethnic Design products and three NGO development projects in Southern Africa. The aim of the research is to determine the barriers and facilitators for Ethnic Design products to reach high-income markets. These products are distinct in quality and are manufactured in South Africa and Namibia. Trough a qualitative research and field visits to all four organizations and applying Entrepreneurship, Social Entrepreneurship and Supply chain theories I was able to trace the path of Ethnic Design products from the rural areas of Namibia and South Africa to Isandi s shop in Oslo.
