Abstract
This Master thesis investigates how Norwegian companies in the oil industry practice corporate social responsibility (CSR). This concept includes many different types of activities in which companies could engage. The basis of this investigation is a triple definition of CSR types that also includes innovation within CSR.
It is discussed in the thesis whether there is economical or social motivation behind managers' choices regarding implementing of different CSR activities. The purpose of the thesis is to investigate managers' attitude towards CSR, and to seek any existing correlation with the types of CSR that they are practicing. Questions that have been used to investigate such attitude have been replicated for this purpose.
The investigation has been carried out by means of a survey sent via e-mail to the managers of a selection of 216 companies in the oil industry. The data from the survey was analyzed using multiple regression, in order to seek any correlation. The results show that there is empirical support for a correlation between attitude towards certain aspects of CSR, and the CSR types that are being practiced.
There were many "Missing values" in the survey, and therefore it is not possible to generalize based on the results.
